Willow has to wear a school uniform when she starts Kindergarten in August. I was checking her school website last night hoping to find a school supply list when I found a notice saying that the school's clothing policy had changed. This kid is going to need a whole new wardrobe - she is only allowed
- black, dark blue, or beige pants/skirts/jumpers
- all shirts must have a collar (plus a precious few additional colours)
- absolutely no writing or pictures (i.e., logos) on clothes
Now, the logo thing isn't so much of a problem - she doesn't have much in the way of that because I don't like it. However, both of her grandmothers have made her dresser-fulls of clothes... and in a riot of little girl colours and patterns - flowers, pinks, purples, turquoises, butterflies, hearts... all which are pretty much verboten under the dress code. Honestly, in her current wardrobe I can only think of a handful of things that fit the wardrobe (a yellow polo shirt, a red sweater, and a white turtleneck).
So, I guess this means I need to crank out at least a sweater for her to wear to school. It's really too bad - I am working on a beautiful shawl-collared sweater (and that in itself is not a problem) for her right now in a beautiful turquoise and sage green colourway (and that is the problem). I have some dark green Wool-Ease in my stash I can use... off to find a pattern.
I'm always torn on the subject of school uniforms. Bummer that you've already got lots of pretty stuff for her to wear. I never had much growing up so uniforms might have made my life easier.
ReplyDeleteI went to Catholic school for 14 years (pre-k thru High School). I can't imagine NOT being in a uniform!!!! I bet she'll love to wear all her girly stuff on the weekends!!
ReplyDeleteI wish they had it for my daughter when she was in school. It would have made life (and shopping) a whole lot easier
ReplyDeleteI was school clothes shopping today and saw unioforms at Old Navy. I wish my girls had to wear a uniform. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteAw that sucks. Part of the fun of having a girl (I can only imagine!) is having her wear those pretty girl things.
ReplyDeleteOof, even when I was getting paid to wear black or gray slacks and a white button down shirt, I hated it. I can't wear gray slacks to this day! ;-)
The only upside to uniforms is no fighting over what she'll wear in the morning. But it is a bummer since she already has so many clothes.
