WiP It Wednesday: The Tragic Edition

People warned me when I took the project on. They said the size was not what it seemed - just make the larger size and trust them.

But I have small feet! It may be the only part of me that is small. Every other sock I have knit for myself has been either a ladies' small or ladies medium - so when I saw that the Jaywalker sock (Ravelry link) came in two sizes, I automatically cast on for the smaller size.

I finished my first sock late Saturday night, and to my utter dismay, it doesn't fit. I couldn't even get the blasted thing over my heel. I know I have wider than normal feet - but I only wear a size 6.5/7. I'm crushed. I loved this skein of Ellen's Half-Pint Farm sock yarn since I bought it at my first MDSW and had planned Jaywalkers for them right from the beginning.

Crapola.

I did cast on for the second one right away - someone with smaller and narrower feet than me is going to get some very pretty socks when I finish the second one.

And I printed off the new pattern with the larger sizes and I will knitting the pattern again with a different yarn. Sigh...

You do have the smallest feet of anyone I know. You know someone with smaller feet for them?
I was hoping you would say they were too big and needed someone with bigger feet. Shoot. Maybe I can trade you a quilt for a pair of socks.

Yeah, I made the large size and even then, I was panting by the time I got them on. I ended up giving them to someone else...so much for $22 worth of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock.

Love ya!

Bummer. It's so pretty. I had to rip the pair I started for myself 4 times before I just gave up. Someday I'll try again.

That same thing happened to me. At the time I made them there was only one size as well as I remember. I couldn't get them past my heel----thought it was just my tight knitting. Glad to know that I wasn't the only one with the problem. It is frustrating though.

You could just plant flowers ;-)

I wear a size 7 which I guess is small (I always thought it was average) and my last pair of Jaywalkers was very baggy on me.

It's why I cannot knit Jaywalkers. I'm sorry. It's frustrating as hell to do all that work for … well, nothing.

That is a bummer! I can't remember what size I made my first Jaywalkers out of, but a second pair, done toe up, ended up way too small to get past my ankle (but fit in the foot fine). My third pair - also toe up - I've added a stitch to each repeat for the leg.

I hate to mention it. But you could always frog...

Dear Jo. Auntie wears a size 5.5 or 6 and so does your mother. Love Auntie Daryth.

The same thing happened to me. That's how my sister got her Jaywalkers. Next time. I'm going toe-up.

OH no! See, now I followed everyone's suggestions and knit the larger size and too big! So I have one slouchy jaywalker and one perfectly fitting (the smaller one) jaywalker...go figure!

It is one pretty sock too!
