I hate making resolutions - the last time I successfully made (and more importantly, kept) New Year's resolutions was the year I found out I was pregnant with Willow (and yes, that was one of the resolutions). Everyone sees the new year as a fresh start and wants to eat better, exercise more... so I won't even mention those.
Instead, I challenge myself to finish 100 books in 2008.
Think I can do it? I would say when I am in the mood I read between 2 - 3 books a week. The challenge would be to keep myself interested in reading. The knitting may suffer. Or my insomnia might just get stronger for it - I don't know. I bought Nancy Pearl's Book Lust Journal to help me keep track of the books. I'll probably whip myself up an excel spreadsheet as well because I am interested in what I am reading - what is the percent of sci-fi versus romance versus historical fiction? How many pages by the end of the year? Who do I read the most?
On the last day of each month I will update you on how many books I have read - and maybe by the end of 2008 I can think up some nifty contest to go along with either my raging success or abysmal failure. How many books do you think I can read in 2008?

Happy New Year! Go for it! I'll be interested in seeing what you read! :)
Great idea! I love sci-fi, can't read romance because I just can't, but love mysteries. If you run out of stuff to read... hey, we're here to help!
I'll bet you read more than 100.
What a bood idea - picking a New Years Resolution that you actually like/want to do - it will definitely up your chances of success.
And Joey - I beleive in you - I know you can do it, even if that means finishing 1 book every 3.65 days... Does reading to Willow count??
You'll do it with no problems. That's a fab resolution.
No problem. I like the idea of a book journal.
That's a great goal! Do you have a list that you're working through?
Sarah,
No - I don't have a list that I plan to work through - although I certainly have a lot of books around my house I haven't read yet. I am also a big fan of my local library and their online library system.
That's a great challenge, Jo. It will be a pleasure to keep up with what you're reading on your blog!
