Friday Night Pizza

When I was in high school I had a couple of the seemingly requisite fast food jobs most kids have - Dairy Queen first (which turned me off soft serve for the longest time!), and then Panagopolous Pizza. This pizza chain has now shortened its name to Panago, I believe, and it only exists in British Columbia. My secret joy? Telling people they couldn't have half toppings of this and half toppings of that. Yes, sometimes I truly do deserve the evil rating from a couple weeks back... It wasn't as if this was my rule - it was a rule of the pizza place - I just took a special joy in *enforcing* it.

So, karma has come back to bite me - I guess I deserve this:

Yes, green peppers on only three-quarters of the pizza. I took a sick day yesterday as I was simply exhausted from me and everyone else in the apartment coughing all night. Willow is the worst - that Mom gene kicks in and I simply cannot sleep because she is sick. So what did I do during my sick day? Set up the bread machine to make a batch of pizza dough. I really love making pizza - this one has chopped up ham, mushrooms, green peppers (on three-quarters of it, anyway), lots of my Dad's garlic, and don't tell Andrew- very finely chopped up pineapple through out. If I'm going to make concessions, it is only going to be to one person at a time!

I didn't have time to go and buy pineapple after work today, so I picked some up in our work cafeteria salad bar. I mentioned to one of my co-workers that I had bought it to put on my pizza, and a bunch of people started saying, "Ugh - pineapple on pizza? Only a Canadian would think of that!" I was not in a good mood to begin with so I snapped back, "It's called a Hawaiian pizza - and the last time I checked, Hawaii was part of the States and therefore American!" I didn't realize my boss was on the other side of the cubicle wall: "Um, Jo - is everything okay?" Grr. Fine.

The pizza was very yummy :) I increase the recipe by 50% because I like having lots of dough for my pizza (don't understand thin crust pizza at all!) I would also normally slice up onions on my mandolin and put those on as well but I was feeling kind of lazy with the chopping and all. And if people want to know about interesting things on pizza when we lived in Japan it was quite popular for people to put asparagus, mayonnaise, and corn on their pizzas (notice I did not say strange or odd because I think there a wonderful variety of pizza around the world).

So, what do you like on your pizza?

I like ham, pineapple and feta cheese - it's the bestest. If I'm making it at home though (and this doesn't happen very often!!!) I will definitley put corn on it. It's yellow and sweet - just like pineapple, but without the acidicy (is that a word?? Stupid blog - no spell check!)

Thanks for the family nagging initiated post :-)

Have a great weekend!

The food karma that I got relates to me being "a picky eater" when I was young (in my defense, there were only 3 things I didn't like: onions, cooked tomatoes, and parsnips).

I am now married to a man who can count the number of vegetables that he will eat on one hand.

Lady Lung Doc -

My husband won't eat corn. Practically the sweetest vegetable grown and we get it fresh out of his parents' backyard and he grimaces if you even sneak it into soup or casseroles...

Oh...I'd love a slice of yours! ;)
I love white cheese pizza with spinach, but only get it at *cough* CiCi's, may try it myself one day! I like pepperoni, most veggies...well not corn or brocolli on my pizza, love pineapple sigh, no one else at home does though!

Heh, I made pizza yesterday! I love pineapple, broccoli, eggplant, all kinds of veggies on my pizza. But I'm married to a man whose definition of pizza is limited to an object with tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni or sausage. Everything else doesn't really count, as far as he's concerned.

I'm always on a mission to get some green stuff into him, which is hard because he has loads of food allergies. And the stuff he isn't allergic to he doesn't eat because he doesn't like it. It's tough.

Hey, I worked at DQ during high school. I couldnt eat ice cream for the longest time afterwards. Its still not my favourite thing.

I made pizza on Friday too! It had mushrooms, parmesan cheese, pepperoni, red pepper and mozzerella.

Artichoke and corn (among other things) is good on pizza too. It sounds weird, but I had it when I was in Germany and it is yum.

I hate to disagree with you...but I am Hawaiian and was born and raised in Hawaii and I can tell you that Hawaiians definitely did not create the Pineapple and Ham pizza. ;0) I have no idea why they call it a Hawaiian pizza. Drives me nuts, I get teased about it all the time. I personally like pepperoni, thin sweet onions, freash basil and garlic. YUM! I am totally with you on more dough! You can never have enough pizza dough...
