Progress Day # 11

Ladies and gentlemen, I think I am going to be an 'also-ran.' Isn't that the right term? A horse that runs a race, finishes, but doesn't win anything in particular? I'm going to finish this vest - mostly because I am determined to wear it before it gets too warm to do so, but in my heart of hearts I don't feel that I am going to get it finished by this Sunday. It's too bad, because I was really hoping to be in the running for one of the fabulous prizes offered to the finishers (on time, that is) of Team Canada.

Here was my finishing point as of Monday night:

This is the longest part of it - the nearly 6 fourteen row cable repeats for the body before you get to the armholes. The normal purl or knit rows take me about 15-20 minutes - not bad at all considering there are a hundred and eighty some odd stitches in each row - but the cable row (two in each repeat) easily takes me 30 minutes. I'm only averaging 2 hours of knitting a night - and even on the weekend when I thought I would have some long stretches of uninterrupted knitting, it didn't quite happen as I had envisioned. However, as a mother of a toddler, I can't really expect my time to be my own.

Speaking of that toddler, here is a gratuitous shot of Willow - with tamed hair this time.

PS - No comments at all with the last one? Ouch...

It's not over till the fat lady sings! Don't give up yet... I know how limited knitting time is with wee ones in the house, but I'm still cheering you on! You've made such incredible progress and you just may surprise yourself and wind up finishing it by Sunday in spite of everything. Such a cute pic of Willow... I'm so sorry I missed your last post; this weekend was a doozie and it's taking me forever to catch up with Bloglines! Take care, Jo! :-)

Chris,

Don't worry - I wasn't pointing fingers at you - you have ben the most consistent through the Olympics! I was making a not terribly subtle comment to my family... where is my cheering section?!?!?

You know we are all cheering you on!!!! Just can't believe that a kid of mine is in any form of Olympics!

Just as a week is a long time in politics, four days is a long time in knitting. Whatever you manage you'll have achieved way more than most of us even attempted. Pour yourself a nice drink and celebrate that.
